Health Nugget, December 03 , 2011 COLON CANCER is the second most common form of cancer that kills both men and women; it primarily occurs in people over 50. The large intestine contains the colon and the rectum. This cancer develops over a period of 10-15 years. It produces no symptoms until it is advanced.
It is far more prevalent in the Western world, where people eat lots of meat and dairy products; it is much lower among people groups which primarily eat grains, vegetables and fruits. A diet rich in meat and fat, and low in vegetables and fiber, helps this cancer develop. Other factors include obesity, alcohol, and cancer elsewhere in the body. A lack of exercise is also a factor. You are more likely to contract it if you have had inflammatory bowel disease.
A diet of meat and fat also encourages the growth of colon polyps, which can become cancerous. If the disease is detected early enough and the tumor has not metastasized (spread), the survival rate is high.
Life is difficult and we can not always see what the future will hold; but, if our trust is in God, we can have the assurance that He will care for us, regardless of what may happen. “He that hath the son, hath life” 1John 5:12. “The meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” Psalm 37:11
